Elizabeth Jane Tanner Simonton, 85, of Brighton, died at her residence. A devoted wife and loving mother, she also worked as a clerk for the War Price and Rationing Board during WWII and as a postal clerk at the Brighton Post Office for 20 years. She served as a Sunday school teacher at her church, Brighton Baptist, for many years.
Services were Dec. 31 at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Buchanan officiating. Interment was in Morrison Cemetery in Brighton.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Simonton (Jim) Durham of Springfield, Va.; a son, William Neal (Debe) Simonton of Brighton; a brother, Wayne Hayes Tanner of Germantown; a sister, Margaret Tanner Ingram of Munford; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her spouse of 50 years, John William “Billy” Simonton; a brother, Ashley N. Tanner Jr., a sister, Anne Tanner Edman and a grandson, Harrison Simonton.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Brighton Baptist Church or the Harrison Simonton Scholarship Fund.
