ARMY OFFICER, ONCE IN POST HERE, IS DEAD
Deceased Name: Lt. Col. Lauris M. Eek [ret.]
Lt. Col. Lauris M. Eek [ret.], 74, of Maryville, Mo., who was 5th army public information officer in Chicago in World War II, died Friday in Munson hospital, Fort Leavenworth, Kans., it was learned here yesterday.
Col. Eek retired from the army reserve in August 1948 after 31 years of service, including 18 years on active duty. He was a fullback on the football team of Northwestern university, and an army pilot and instructor for two years in World War I.
Surviving are Col. Eek's widow, Donna Sisson Eek; two sons, Dr. Nathaniel S. Eek, head of the dramatics department at the university of Oklahoma, and Major Lauris M. Eek Jr. of the army; and six grandchildren. Services are to be arranged today.
