- Augustin Steinhart, 94, of Sigourney died Sun., March 1, 1998, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
He was born Aug. 21, 1903, in Engelweis, Germany, to Augustin and Antona Keller Steinhart. He married Velma Irene Kleinschmidt on Jan. 4, 1930, in Sigourney.
He attended school in Germany and immigrated to the United States, arriving in Hayesville in the fall of 1924. He purchased a farm in 1957, near Delta, where he farmed until retiring and moving to Sigourney in 1984. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and was a former leader of 4-H and FFA. They were the WMT farm family of the year in 1951, and were Honorary Chapter Farmers from Sigourney FFA.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Nell Weber; four sons, Harold, Glen, Terry and Wilmer; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Duane; a grandson; six brothers, Franz, Anton, Joseph, Johann, Fredrich and Hermann; and two sisters, Maria Eisele and Rosina Eisele.
Services will be held Wed., March 4 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, in Sigourney, the Rev. Danny Lemons officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney.
