- Roy Boyd Brazell, 68, of Prescott, formerly of Camden, passed away on January 21, 2015, after a two-year battle with cancer. Although as an adult, he went by the name of Roy, his family and Camden friends called him Boyd.
He was born in Camden on November 17, 1946, to parents Roy Benjamin Brazell and Dorothy Boyd Brazell, both of whom preceded him in death.
He grew up in Camden, attending the public schools. He was a 1968 honor graduate of Austin (Presbyterian) College in Sherman, Texas. Later, he earned a master's degree in German at the University of Memphis and another master's degree in comparative literature from the University of Arkansas.
He held an Arkansas teaching certificate and taught in several school districts in the state. He also taught for several years at a junior college in Mississippi and at a public school in Columbia, Tennessee.
He is survived by his sister, Jane Brazell Sisolak and her husband Tom of Fort Worth, Texas, and his niece, Mary Beth Sisolak Wagner and her husband Dale, also of Fort Worth. Other survivors include the following first cousins: Sammy Brazell (Judy) of Magnolia; Danny Brazell (Maria) of McNeil; Virginia Riddick of McNeil; Kay Roberts (Vern) of Helena, MT; Ray Armstrong (Sue) of Billings, MT; Elizabeth Pell of Memphis, TN; John Pell of Memphis TN; Mary Alice Morrison of Clover, SC.
He will be buried in the Shiloh Cemetery at Lamartine (Columbia County) in the Brazell family site.
A graveside service will be held on April 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Erin Kaye of Camden's First Presbyterian Church officiating, under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.
